Laager 18 Celebrates 50 Years of Trekkers at Maselspoort
The 50th National Annual General Meeting (NAGM) of the Trekkers Outdoor Recreation Club was a milestone event, bringing campers together at Maselspoort Resort near Bloemfontein for a memorable celebration of friendship, tradition, and outdoor adventure. Seven families from Laager 18 travelled to attend this special occasion and celebrate fifty years of Trekkers history.
The weekend featured a variety of outdoor games and activities that kept campers entertained while celebrating this historic achievement. Although the spring weather kept everyone guessing, the rain stayed away long enough for participants to enjoy plenty of fun, laughter, and friendly competition. When the weather eventually turned wet, the true Trekkers spirit shone through as campers gathered inside the main food tent to continue with the official NAGM proceedings. The result was a cosy, lively, and uniquely memorable experience.
A special thank you was extended to Laager 20 for hosting the Golden Anniversary event and bringing Trekkers from across the country together for this historic gathering. The occasion reflected everything that makes the club special: friendship, resilience, teamwork, and a shared passion for camping and the outdoors.
Adding to the entertainment was the now-famous Great Flag Heist, where Alexa and a group of helpers successfully conducted a covert mission to "borrow" several camp flags. Campers later had the opportunity to buy their treasured banners back during Sunday's Indaba, creating plenty of laughter and becoming one of the standout moments of the weekend.
As the celebrations came to an end, excitement was already building for the next NAGM, which will be hosted in Cape Town. Members left Maselspoort with wonderful memories, lasting friendships, and eager anticipation for the next great Trekkers adventure.
