Hi All

I bought a used Tando, but the Swing action is very tight. My Brother-in-law's Tando is much easier to use.

Can someone maybe help as to the correct torque setting for the nut holding the friction pad.

Some years ago I came across it somewhere on the internet, but now I cannot seem to find it again?

Hi Mike. From the Tando Fitting Instructions;
NOTE: The friction pads are pre-set to 38 Nm, which is an initial setting, and may be increased to suit the requirements of the individual application. The setting should be checked each year.
My Tando is set at 38 Nm and it works fine for me.

Just What I was looking for. This thing is so tight that I struggle to lift it and swing it.

Mike lift effort is heavy and a reason why people move to the yellow blade. I have found the Nm on the bolts is close to the pull/push force at the end of the handle measured in kg with a scale.

 

The torque is set so tight that I have to use a mallet to bring the bar across. I can lift the bar..

Comparing to my brother in law's Tando the nut is almost 2 turns more in.

Mike the number of turns is irrelevant , you need to get a torque wrench to set the tension on the friction pads

Fixed.

The Torque on the nut was way too high. We loosened it and re-torqued it to 38 Nm.
