I'm new here.

I'll have my first motorhome experience next December, so any advice is welcome

I'll be renting a 4 berth motorhome in Cape Town from the 27th December until the 3rd of January.

I'm now looking for campsites for our trip. I would love some help with this.

I'm looking for campsites that are not more than 4/5 hours away from Cape Town, with water, electric hookups, bathrooms and showers. I would like them to be near game farms where I could do some game drives with the family (the little one insists 😄). Also easy access would be plus since I'm new to this. Ideally, we would spend two nights in a campsite 2/3 hours away from Cape Town and the rest of the time in a campsite further away (maybe near Mossel Bay).

If you are renting the motorhome in Capetown then you will have to drive atleats about 7 hours to Port Elizabeth area where you will find the Addo Elephant park.  This is Game Park  with large animals that is realy worth the visit. The senic route to drive to the Addo is worth the trip along the "Garden Route". 

The other Game Parks closer to Capetown do have animals but are limited to antalope and small buck. 

Another about 5 hours drive from Cape Town as Relaxed Camper pointed out that you must try, is the Karoo National Park which is close to the town of Beaufort West.  The route driving there is just a road and it is not that senic as one would expect for a trip during a holiday.

You are a bit late to start now to make bookings for your trip. But maybe you are lucky to get resevation for a day or so.

Click on the "Resorts" tab above and choose the Western Cape area.  A map will open of that area that will give you an indication where in SA you are and when choosing a resort you can get details of it there.

Must say that the duration of your stay with the Motorhome is a bit short for the trip you are planning.

There is also the Bontebok National Park (https://www.sanparks.org/parks/bontebok) outside Swellendam. About 2 hrs from Cape Town. From there Mosselbay is another two hours drive. This is along the N2 Route from Cape Town. Decent tar road all the way. The drive will be more scenic that the N1 Route to Karoo National Park.

It might be problematic to impossible to find accomodation at this time at resorts as the days you mention as this is the most popular holiday time of the year.  You should start calling or emailing immediately and hope for the best. 

But you can also consider less popular destinations.  You don't mention camping at the beach  where I can almost guarantee there would be no space at this late hour.  You should  look at private parks on farms of which there are many in most places in our country. If you do find something that looks suitable, look for Reviews to see what other campers think about it.   You might be able to find some with game on the farm.  I would say look at a town at the desirable distance from Cape town and search for camping "near" it.

The facilities you mention should be available on most if not all camps .  Do keep us up to date.
