Karidene caravan park
We will be going to Karidene this week end. The weather says thunderstorms. I hope it is not a repeat of last month when we went to Salt rock caravan park. Wind, rain and even hail on the beach. Our poor friends were washed out of their tent. They remove 30L of water out of the tent. They are going to look at a caravan this weekend.
Regards MArg
Good MOrning Marg,
I will be going there in December. Please tell me whats its like as I have never been there and would like to know from a seasoned camper. Many thanks and enjoy your day and also the weekend. I cannot remember off hand which site I booked but its apparently near the road/highway?
Enjoy your week-end camp and I hope the weather plays along.
Marg, have a great camping weekend, I'm sure you will let us know how it went with the weather.
Hi Christa, The caravan park is elavated, so the sites near the road are high up. The Highway runs parallel to the road but is a small distance away. You do hear vehicles passing on the road but it is not very busy especially at night. We have camped on the edge of the caravan park on the road side. They a very nice sites with small low bushes between site. The sites are spacious.(Unlike Salt Rock, we were packed in like sardines) The only problem is if there is wind it hits you, but our windy season is over by then. The park is not on the beach side of the railway line. There is a long walk to the beach via a lovely wooden walk way, very easy going. Very nice ablutions, Spacious and clean. On some occasions there have been too many people in the pool as both the hotel and the caravan park uses the pool. Although it is not our favourite park we camp there every odd month because is is cheap. I don't know what is cost in December but we pay R55.00 for two people over 60yrs per night. ( a total of R110.00 for the weekend.) Or R55 per person per night under 60yrs old. The park is approx 20ks from home. Our Marshall is 8yrs old and is disabled so he does not use the facilities. The playground, pool, put put, etc is part of the hotel so you have to go over to there to use the facilities. It is a easy short walk. The caravan park is nice and central to travel North into Durban and South to visit various places.
Hi Christa (Liewe Heksie)
Some photos of Karridene for you.
Entrance to park.
Park - roads - ablutions - Dot!
Probably your site will be along this row of sites against the fence / road
Willie at Karridene 2010
Please let us know when you are at Karridene and Dot & I will visit. Karridene is only about asn hour from us in Pietermaritzburg.

Thanks Marg it sound lovely. Not sure wheteher I'm looking forward to the long trek to the beach but hey will have to put my lazyness aside and just do it
Willie we will be there from 15th Dec to 4th Jan. It will be so good to see The Bromheads !!!! I take this as a promise that U will come over for the day? The park looks good judging from the pics.
Just looked at my booking on stand 11. We booked 10,11 and 12.
Regards
CC
Hi
We will also be there, 1-10 December. Do not know what stand.
Regards
Pieter
Hi Christie and Pieter, As predicted it rained all weekend. We did not have a thunder storm but it rained and drizzled on and off. The only sun we saw was when we were packing up. Then is started raining again. We packed up just in time. I took a few photo's. Some of the abalutions and also some of the road side sites. We landed up with a leak from the pop up roof through a screw hole next to one of the hold downs. Had to balance a bowl to catch the water.
MArg , maybe have a close look at that leak ? Looks a bit like some woodrot around the area. Don't want the roof moving off in the next wind......
Yes, I think you are right. I have made arrangement to it looked at on Wednesday. I will take photo's if I can.
Regards Marg
Must add, guess what we were watching at Karridene. it was raining after all. Karridene has D.S.T.V. cabled to all sites, just bring your TV. (NB - we only take the TV to Karridene to watch rugby- no where else)
GO SHARKS
Hi Marg,
Thanks once again for the feedback. It really looks good, now I am actually looking forward to this long trek in December. Nice to know that all stands have dstv as I like to watch in the evenings, and also in bad weather. Not nice that U had yukky weather again but at least it was a outing. We had really bad hail on Saturday on the east rand, luckily not in my area but so many of my friends had real damage done to their homes, cars, caravans and gardens. Your stainglass is fantastic and the kitchen that your hubby built:outstanding!!
Enjoy your week speak soon.
Hi Christa, only a pleasure. Sorry I spelt your name wrong.
Regards Marg
Hi Marg,
Just read now that U live only 20ks away so the invitation to visit in December also extended to you. It will be super if you and the (Boss) Bromheads could come one day and we make it mini caravan.com saamtrek.
Please think about it?
Hi Christa, we will be going to visit family just out side Kruger from 20th Dec. If time allows we will try to make a plan before we go. If any other members are around that should be great.
Regards MArg
Ok, this is how you find a leak. You remove the whole roof and have a good look. Keith (Rafi) from K.P. Mobile Caravan repairs is here at my house. Previously he sorted out the back for us, now he is doing the front. He has removed all the wood rot, and is busy replacing it with new wood. There is not a lot of wood rot but enough to cause a leak. The push up roof just needs sealing.
Hi Marg.
I have also used Keith to do some work for me and he has also done work for my family and friends as well.we are very satisfied with his work.
