I have heard some are unhappy with Joos Becker.

In 2 years, we have visited them 5 times and on all 4 previous occassions we were satisfied with a nice spacious park, satisfactory grass being somewhere nice to stop over for a couple of nights and especially at an affordable tarrif. The only eyesore was the ablutions, which may be "old", but clean (on a daily basis.

We have always been ignorant of that area and always picked out a nice spot on the way in near the ablutions.Well, I was surprised this week end. For those that were unhappy, I ask if they looked around the corner behind the swimming pool? There we found another set of ablutions - "NEW" and would compare with some of the luxury caravan parks at much higher prices.

For what it is worth, we were three adults, children 15, 6, and 3 with two vehicles and paid R139-50 per night - How can we not go back, especially in summer, when the swimming pool is open?

(Normal tarrifs R155 for 4 plus R36 per vehicle and extra persons - reception allowed the two little ones in free).

That is almost like staying for free.   Presumably it does cost more in summer?

Summer tarrifs are the same - Municipal park - Prices have recently increased.

David, agree.  We have used Joos Becker as a stop over for many years and once again in May and June 2016.  We prefer the first (old) ablusion and choose our stand between the ablusion and the swimming pool. At the low price per day, it is a bargain.

I agree Lennie - just thought it wise to mention the good ablutions around the corner for those that may be put off by the old ones. We normally stand on the inner circle a little away facing the rising sun in winter and backs to it in summer, which leaves a lot of place for children to play.

Another thing we like is the lighting - due to trees lights are not bright in the eyes but provide a lot of ground light and no need for torches. In summer, children have a ball playing there at night.

Swimming pool is dirty at the moment, but closed for winter - in the summer, cleaned on a daily basis, even over weekends.

Virtually no braai near stands but lovely braai area, if you don't have your own portable.

Jin, as ek in Wierdapark gebly het, sou ek beslis ook nie in Joos Becker gaan "kamp" het nie.

Maar as jy vanaf die Kaap reeds 1500km oppad Wildtuin toe agter die rug het en jy het familie en vriende in Pretoria wat jy graag wil opsoek, is daar nie 'n beter oornagplek binne-in Pretoria as Joos Becker nie  -  nie om te kamp nie, maar om te oornag vir 'n aand of twee.

Ons het al 2 keer daar gaan kamp vir die naweek, een was destyds saam met 'n klomp WegSleep kampers en die ander een was saam ander vriende met een se verjaarsdag en hy is 'n volle 6.4km van ons huis af.

Ook net om die hoek van ons af, ry letterlik elke dag daar verby, laat my van buite af maar dink dit kan lekker plekkie wees vir mense wat van ver af Pretoria en omgewing besoek.. Dis net te naby aan die huis, moet n kuier of iets wees wat werklik "kamp" gaan regverdig om die hoek van die huis af..

Going back again this week end.

looking for somewhere in Johannesburg for next week from where I can drive to work - probably leave early and may as well holiday at the same time. No need to go home as all in the lift club are off and wife is still recovering from a knee replacement.

Ek sien in 2016 was Joos Bekker 'n kampeerterrein in Pta wat goeie aanbevelings gehad het. Is die terrein steeds 'n veilige en skoon opsie om 'n paar dae daar oor te staan? Is dit waar dat daar tans permanente plakkers en ongunstige elemente teenwoordig is?

Len Loader (op hierdie forum bekend as "Lennie") het graag daar oorgestaan in die verlede. Ek wens hy lees jou navraag, want hy het (as ek korrek is) enkele jare gelede besluit dit is nie meer 'n wenslike kampeerterrein nie a.g.v. agteruitgang.

Hanz, soos Chris hierbo sê, ons het vir jare altyd oppad Kruger Wildtuin toe by Joos Becker vir 'n paar dae oorgestaan en dit heel gerieflik en netjies gevind.  Maar in 2018 het ons besluit nie weer nie aangesien die ablusie verwaarloos was en ek nie gelukkig was met die elemente wat daar "shacks" opgeslaan het nie.  Ek het 'n klagte by die betrokke Stadsraadraadslid ingedien en 'n belofte gekry iets sal daaraan gedoen word.  Ek glo nie dit het gebeur nie, maar ek is weer oppad Wildtuin toe en wil self gaan kyk wat daar aangaan.  Ons gaan egter by familie tuis in Pretoria-Noord en ek sal dan gaan ondersoek instel en daarna my opinie gee.

Ek behoort volgende week daar 'n draai te kan maak.

Last camped there many years ago ( about 2012/13 ) bumped into Arie & Petra while we were there. Was a short stay just a few nights. Would be good to see Lennie's comments after he pops in there>
